Building senior mental health through person-centred care

Home Care recipient Mr. Scibilia, who was on 24 hour oxygen support, was suffering from depression due to his social isolation. This also put Mr. Scibilia’s wife, Mrs. Scibilia, under a lot of carer stress, and they were looking for a solution that could help alleviate their situation.

SydWest arranged a nursing visit for the Scibilia family with our Clinical Care Manager, who identified their needs and organised a portable oxygen tank that enabled him to leave the house while still meeting his physical needs.

With the encouragement and support from our SydWest Care Coordinators, he can now go out and reconnect with his community, which has made him very happy over the last two months.

The Scibilia family is so pleased with SydWest’s ability to assist them live in reconnecting with their community and moving freely within their home, that they have changed their mind about transitioning him to a nursing home, as they trust the support that our SydWest aged care staff is providing.
