SydWest Multicultural Services #embraceequity on International Women's Day

This year we hosted our annual International Women’s Day (IWD) event in partnership with Tamil Valarchi Manram to celebrate and encourage women of all backgrounds to #embraceequity and grab their right to equality with both hands! 

Expert speakers explored the intersections of the legal system and domestic violence through the dowry system.

Emebet is a prominent sociologist who has made significant contributions to the field of sociology in Ethiopia. She has an extensive background in sociology and social anthropology. 

Emeline Kite

For her building of relationships of trust within the community to support vulnerable people in accessing the support and services they require to achieve better outcomes for themselves and their families.

Deborah Neil

For her contribution to CALD, Refugees and SydWest’s client is significant over the years, where she has developed a reputation amongst her peers as the ‘go to person’ for community links and contacts

Prakriti Shrestha

Prakriti has a strong sense of community who is committed to promoting health and welfare. She has been organising culturally significant events like "Teej" program, cultural dance, community gatherings like picnics, and parent afternoon teas to foster unity within the Nepali community.

Indira Dhungyel

Indira has been an active volunteer/leader in annual functions, awareness programs, sports day, and connecting families through family get-togethers and fundraising events. 

Sree Vithya

Vithya is currently serving as the National Ladies Program Coordinator of the Sai Organization of Australia. Her role is to empower women of all ages to forge ahead as an inspiration to one and all.

Henrietta Adomako

Henrietta has taught young children the value of education and to embrace their skin colour regardless of race for the betterment of my community.

Jane Attard-Taylor

For building strong relationships with other organisations to improve service delivery to women and children impacted by domestic and family violence.

Shaista Khan

Shaista has created a niche for herself as a Marketing Communications Specialist.

Shaista is an active supporter of the United Nations mission and is currently working with United Nations Association Australia NSW as Director of Education and Project Lead for its School Program. She has successfully worked in management roles on international and national donor-funded Education and social inclusion projects with charities in the UK, Australia, and Pakistan.
